Pattern field trip.

Today at Enrich we went on a field trip to learn more about patterns. There were three groups, I was in Jenni's group with Matt S, Tessa, Katura, Reid, Luca, Samantha and me. The three parts we were going to look at were the glass houses, the museum and the animals. We started with the glass houses followed by animals then lunch and to finish off we had the museum. My least favourite part was when we went to the ducks because they kept on chasing me. My favourite part was at the animals because I saw some of my favourite animals like the turtle (the shell is a pattern of survivability and strength) and the wallabies (are a pattern because their fur is to help them camouflage from predators).

Maths and a Wilson game.

Take four hoops, four bean bags and what do you get?... A complicated Wilson game! It's called 'Bullseye'. The aim of the game is to get the four beanbags into the four hoops. The rules:

  • No toes over the front of the line when your throwing
  • If your beanbag touches the hoop after landing, it's a no throw!
Each hoop was worth a certain amount of points.  The first hoop was worth 2 points, the second hoop was worth 4 points, the third hoop was worth 6 points and the fourth hoop was worth 8 points.  Our team came third - we need to work on our strategy for the next time.  I think we should use the flat beanbags that do not bounce for the first and second hoop, and then use the beanbags that bounce for the third and fourth hoop.

After morning tea, I did a maths taster session with Katie. It was fun because Katie said that at the end we could all have a chocolate. So then we worked extra hard. We looked at probability today.  Probability is predicting if something will happen.  We worked out a lot of percentages.  We did an activity with rolling 1 dice, 2 dice, and then using a spinner with colours.  My favourite part was when we did the dice rolling because we got to use tally marks and I love to use tally marks.  The last part, Katie had a box of Cadbury Favourites.  We had to work out the chances of pulling out each flavour.  Then we chose chocolates at random to see if our predictions were correct.  We pulled out picnics the most!

Chess and Drama

Today at Enrich we did drama. My favourite part of drama was when we played musical bumps because I came second and second! The rules were that when Katie stopped the music you had to sit down and cross your legs and if you were last to sit down you were eliminated. I was very pleased with myself because I love to win!

We also played chess after we did drama. I played Matt L. We played one game and he won it. I'm used to losing chess because when I play my dad he usually wins.

(I've only beaten Dad twice: one of the times it was just pure luck, and the second time he wasn't feeling so good.)

Anyway. Back to today's game.....It was extremely close but in the end he won by one move. He is now 5th and I am now 6th. The top six on the leader board are Bruno, Matt S, Travis, Liam, Matt L and me. We play chess to sharpen our brains.
